How Your Child Will Benefit From The “Chaos” of Camp

Hesitant on signing your child up for camp this summer?
Although each child is unique, we truly believe that every single
one of them can benefit from attending a camp.

From creatively themed weeks allowing a deep dive into imaginary worlds, to fun games like “Capture the Flag” allowing for development of leadership & teamwork skills, many parents still underestimate how impactful the camp experience truly is on their mini-me.

What is Camp?

If you are unfamiliar with the camp world, camp is a very magical place that embodies fun, creativity, leadership, new experiences but most importantly, the creation and exploration of identity. Take a moment and ask someone that you know attended camp as a child what their experience was like. Almost every single time, their answer will be something along the lines of “ OMG, best summers of my life! It is the place where I created some of my favorite childhood memories and where I met some of my favorite people like fellow camper friends and counselor-mentors!”.

Structured Chaos

How is it that almost every individual having attended camp has that same reaction? There’s only one answer to this question which is “structured chaos”, every child’s dream! Hear us out now… Although that sounds like every parent’s worst nightmare, this happens to be a very important step in a child’s progression of cognitive, physical, social and emotional development

Think about it this way; for 10 months out of the year, your child is spending the majority of his or her time indoors, sitting in a very structured school classroom, doing homework and trying to work toward specific objectives via strict guidelines that have already been set out for them by someone else. Although camp is still quite structured, more than most would imagine, it is much less structured than a school setting and it allows for constant spontaneity and exploration in a safe and nurturing environment.

Benefits of Unstructured Play

At camp, your child will find leeway and freedom in every activity they do, allowing them to follow along at their own pace and express themself with very few limitations. This is the perfect time for your child to discover who they are, what they enjoy, as well as what they excel at. Unstructured play is absolutely crucial to a child’s development and it happens to be at the heart of every camp.

From messy paint activities and slimy science experiments, to screaming & chanting at the top of their lungs during sports tournaments or theater & dance shows, there is nothing else quite like the camp experience. The freedom your child will feel to engage in these activities with the possibility of setting their own personal objectives and guidelines, will encourage them to seek out endless opportunities to make new discoveries, forever friendships and fun memories! Camp truly is the perfect setting for safe and unstructured play, which fosters creativity, imagination, independence, problem-solving, and so much more along the way! Not to mention, it’s an absolute blast for both kids and staff!

Did you know that the structured "chaos" of camp can also benefit parents?

You read that right... Children typically get home completely exhausted after a long day of camp and are ready for a good night's sleep... every parent's dream!
