Can you believe that we are already at the end of October? Before you know it, the kids will be on holiday break in December and soon enough, we will be ringing in 2018! However, in the meantime, let's take it day-by-day, so let's start this week off with Halloween, but don't forget, safety first! We all love dressing up into our favourite TV characters, animals, movie stars, and anything that starts with "I'm a scary [insert anything here: witch, bride, bug, snowman, teacher, etc.], but the Laurus team wants to make sure you and your families are safe while out and about on Halloween, so here are a few tips that we live by when we take our little ones out trick-or-treating!
- Costume Tips: bright, easily visible, a proper fit, comfortable, does not cover his/her face, and is not a tripping hazard (think stairs) - we recommend that you put reflectors on your child’s costume.
- Candy Screening: Apart from taking all the good kinds for yourself, make sure to screen your child’s bag of candy before they dump it all on the ground and start eating, as you eat their Mars bar, just tell them "Safety first kids!" Throw away candies and other foods that are not in wrappers, home made, damaged (wrapper broken, chip bag popped), and unmarked.
- Beware of Pumpkins: If your child's costume has long stringy parts, they can easily land inside a jack-o-lantern or two, so first, put lights in your pumpkins, not real candles, and second make sure your kids are safe around other pumpkins, in case they use candles. We don't want a flapper dress catching fire, now do we!
- Street Smart: Go trick or treating with another family to give your kids the freedom to walk together and ahead, going door to door, but also to make sure they are crossing the roads together and looking out for one another!
Have a wonderful time with your family and in the meantime never hesitate to reach out to us if you have questions or concerns! Don't forget to check out March Break details! Have a Spooktastic Week,Your Laurus Team
