Laurs Camp Announces Big Plans to Celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary

Montreal, QC - January 16, 2017

Laurus Camp, Montreal’s first and only lifestyle summer camp, today announced plans to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary. A line up of engaging Canadian experiences, organized cultural events and guest speakers will shape the 2017 summer for campers at Laurus

Since being founded in 2012, Laurus has established deep roots as a Canadian first summer experience. Last year, camp co-founders Philip A. Cutler and Gabriel D’Amico-Mazza announced $50 000 fund to cover the costs of bringing Syrian refugee children to camp, ensuring they are welcomed into the Canadian community. Past guest speakers include Canada's first astronaut in space (and current MP) Marc Garneau, many Canadian Olympic team members and Canadian Football League players, among others.

"Teaching our campers about Canada's rich history has always been a part of Laurus, but this year we are taking it a step further," said Director of Camp Operations Ava Nouraeyan. "We have a lineup of guest speakers, and cultural events that will give children an immersive learning experience into our amazing country's past, present and future." The two week March break program and nine week summer program will feature weekly activities designed to engage campers, their family and friends as the country unites to celebrate 150 years of Canada.

In 2017, Laurus will also be opening a West Island location to enable their lifestyle summer program to reach even more children. Celebrating their 6th summer, the camp continues to expand with a mission of providing campers with a summer experience that stimulates both their body and mind, ensuring they are constantly growing in many different areas of life - the Canada 150 celebration is another example of this.

Unique to LSC is their KIDSCAN program, an annual initiative run by the campers to raise money and awareness for local charities and organizations. Last year the KIDSCAN program raised $3000 for the Cedar's Cancer Foundation's Bell Fund.

In 2015, Laurus Summer Camp partnered with the International Startup Festival to offer the first ever Entrepreneurship summer program for children. Campers aged 11-15 prepared business ideas with the help of mentors like L.P. Maurice, Sylvain Carle, Ian Jeffrey, Phil Telio and Meghan Smulders eventually pitching on stage to judges and hundreds of attendees at the International Startup Festival.
